A deep cream field and a single teal line. That is the entire palette, and it is more than enough. A central column of nested diamonds runs from top to bottom, drawn in teal with a hand that was confident enough to let the lines stay slightly irregular. Zigzag forms run along both sides of the composition, and scattered diamond outlines and filled dots sit in the open field between them. The pile is exceptionally thick and soft. Two colours, one strong hand, nothing else needed.

Why this rug
The Beni Ourain diamond structure is one of the most enduring forms in Amazigh weaving. Most versions are black on white. This one brings it in teal on deep cream, which changes the feeling of the pattern entirely from graphic to warm.
The lines are hand-drawn and slightly irregular in the way that only handwoven wool can be. That irregularity is not a flaw. It is what separates this from anything machine-made and what gives it life on the floor.
The pile depth is exceptional. This is not a flat-weave or a thin decorative piece. It is a rug you feel underfoot, and it will hold that softness for years.
I chose this one because the teal is not a standard colour in the Beni Ourain tradition. Someone made a deliberate choice to work in that tone, and the result is a piece that sits outside any obvious category.
How this sits in a room
In natural light
In daylight the cream base reads as warm ivory and the teal is clear and vivid. In evening light under warm bulbs the cream softens to a golden tone and the teal deepens slightly. The two-colour simplicity means the rug reads consistently across different light conditions without losing its character.
Wall colours it suits
Off-white and warm linen are the natural pairing: they extend the cream base and let the teal pattern read clearly. Against deep navy or near-black walls the ivory field lifts and the rug becomes graphic and striking. Sage walls echo the cool tone of the teal without competing with it.
Floor and furniture
Works on warm wood floors, stone, and concrete. The cream base adapts to any surface. Natural wood furniture, linen upholstery, and rattan all pair well. The two-colour simplicity means this rug integrates quietly into almost any interior without demanding attention, but rewards it when given.

Brush once or twice a year
Keeps the wool fibres alive and the texture looking its best.
Treat stains quickly
Blot gently with warm water and a little Woolite. Never rub.
Let it breathe
Never leave it folded for long. Wool needs air to stay in good shape.
Natural freshening tip
A light mist of water, bicarbonate of soda, and a few drops of mint essential oil refreshes the rug between cleans and acts as a natural insect repellent in spring and summer.
