Aznag | Handwoven Berber Rug | Colour Block | Boujaad
Large colour blocks on a cream wool field. Aznag was woven by hand in Morocco by an Amazigh artisan working without a template. Saffron and amber anchor the upper left. A slate-grey diagonal cuts through the centre. Burnt orange and two tones of teal, bright and muted, fill the right side. A wide lavender-navy block settles across the lower half. The cream field beneath it all is speckled with orange throughout, so the base itself is never entirely still. At 150 x 247 cm, this is a rug that fills a room and changes its atmosphere. The pile is very thick. The colours are the real thing, not approximations.
DetailsWhy this rug
How this sits in a room
In natural light
The saffron and amber read very warm in morning or afternoon light. The teal brightens considerably. In the evening under warm artificial light, the lavender-navy deepens and the cream base turns golden. This rug looks different at different times of day, which is part of its character.
Wall colours it suits
Off-white, warm linen, greige, sage, and deep navy all work well. The multicolour composition is forgiving but it carries a lot of warmth. A cool grey or stark white wall will flatten it. Against a deep navy wall the saffron and teal will lift the room completely.
Floor and furniture
On warm wood floors like oak or pine the amber tones in the rug tie everything together. On concrete or stone floors it adds the warmth the surface is missing. Keep surrounding furniture simple: natural wood, linen, or leather. This rug does not need competition.
