Izri | Handwoven Coloured Beni Ourain Rug | Ivory & Multicolour
Izri was woven in the Middle Atlas on a wool base as thick and dense as the ones made a century ago. The pile is exceptional, the deepest in the collection. A bold black and orange diamond border frames both sides. Inside the field, motifs are placed vertically down the ivory ground with room to breathe between them: an orange cross form at the top, red cross-bar marks in the upper register, a central diamond in olive and dark brown, wavy black marks at the midpoint, more orange and red cross forms below, and at the base a cluster of purple and hot pink diamonds. The composition reads from top to bottom like a sentence. Every mark was placed on purpose.
DetailsWhy this rug
How this sits in a room
In natural light
In daylight the orange and red marks are vivid and the ivory base glows. The purple and pink at the base read clearly as cool accents against the warm field. In evening light the whole piece becomes richer and the deep pile casts soft shadows between the motifs, which gives the surface additional texture and depth.
Wall colours it suits
Off-white and warm linen let the ivory base extend naturally into the wall. Against deep navy or near-black walls the cream pile lifts and the coloured motifs come forward fully. Sage walls echo the olive at the centre without competing with the warmer tones.
Floor and furniture
At this format it works best as a focused accent: beside a bed, in front of a fireplace, at the entrance to a room, or under a single armchair. The pile depth means it feels significant underfoot even at a compact size. Keep the surrounding space simple and let the rug hold the attention.
Scale in practice
The smallest and most compact piece in the collection. Suited for a bedside, fireplace front, hallway entrance, or under a single armchair.
