At first glance a plain cloud of cream wool. Then the light moves and a lattice of diamonds appears, carved into the pile rather than coloured onto it, with slivers of mint green showing through the cuts like water under ice. The edges are finished with braided bands in lemon yellow, the only outspoken colour on the rug. Deep, dense Mrirt pile makes Tifawt (the Amazigh word for light) as much about touch as about pattern: the kind of rug you notice with your feet first.

Sizes and lead time
Woven to order. The photos show the reference piece woven by the cooperative. Choose your size and fringe finish and the same design is knotted for you: count 6 to 8 weeks to your door. Hand-knotting means your rug will carry its own small variations from the photo. That is part of every handmade piece.
Why this rug
Relief-carved pattern: the design lives in the pile itself and appears and disappears with the light.
The mint reveals are woven flat beneath the carved lines, a technique that takes real skill at the loom.
Mrirt pile is the densest and softest of the Atlas weaves: this is the thickest rug of the collection.
I chose this design for calm interiors: it adds depth and texture without adding any visual noise.
How this sits in a room
In natural light
The pattern lives on light. Morning and evening sun rakes across the pile and draws the diamonds sharply; overhead light softens everything back to a cloud.
Wall colours it suits
Tone on tone rooms suit it best: warm whites, greige, sand. A mint or grey-green accent wall picks up the reveals without shouting.
Floor and furniture
A bedroom and lounge rug above all. Light wood floors and pale walls let the carved texture be the event.
Care instructions
Vacuum regularly
Low suction, against the pile. Avoid the fringes with the nozzle.
Brush once or twice a year
Keeps the wool fibres alive and the texture looking its best.
Treat stains quickly
Blot gently with warm water and a little Woolite. Never rub.
Let it breathe
Never leave it folded for long. Wool needs air to stay in good shape.
Natural freshening tip
A light mist of water, bicarbonate of soda, and a few drops of mint essential oil refreshes the rug between cleans and acts as a natural insect repellent in spring and summer.
