A cream field covered in marks that tell a story. At the top, human silhouettes hold hands across the width of the rug. Tree forms rise between them, their branches drawn with the looseness of something sketched from memory. A vertical spine of nested diamonds runs down the centre, outlined in navy, red and olive. Around it, the field is filled with the signs of Amazigh life: H forms, Z shapes, chevron arrows, crossed lines, rectangular blocks along the borders in red, navy, olive and taupe. At the base, vessel forms sit in a row like objects placed on a shelf. Every mark was made by hand, by someone who knew exactly what she was putting there. At 260 x 158 cm, this rug fills a room and gives it something to look at.

The photographed piece is the size marked Ready to ship and ships from Belgium within 2 to 3 working days. Every other size is woven to order in the same design by the cooperative: count 6 to 8 weeks to your door. Hand-knotting means your rug will carry its own small variations from the photo. That is part of every handmade piece.
Why this rug
This is a narrative rug. The artisan recorded scenes and symbols from her own life across the field. Figurative silhouettes, trees, vessels, Amazigh signs. It is not a pattern. It is a record.
The palette is muted and deliberate. Navy, red, olive, taupe and dusty pink on a natural cream base. Nothing shouts. The marks draw you in slowly the longer you look at it.
At 260 x 158 cm it is the largest format in the collection. It covers the full footprint of a dining table with chairs, or anchors an open-plan living space from end to end.
I chose this one because the composition has a top, a middle and a bottom. It reads like a page. There is nothing else like it in the collection.
How this sits in a room
In natural light
The cream base reads as warm ivory in daylight and the muted marks stay balanced across the field. In evening light under warm bulbs the navy deepens and the red and olive come forward slightly. The rug never looks the same twice, which is part of what makes it worth keeping.
Wall colours it suits
Off-white, warm linen, greige, sage and terracotta all work naturally with the cream base. Against a warm dark wall the ivory field will lift and the marks will read clearly. Avoid cool whites and grey-blues, which will pull the warmth out of the palette.
Floor and furniture
Works on warm wood floors, stone, and concrete alike. The cream base bridges most surfaces. Keep furniture simple and uncompeting: natural wood, linen upholstery, raw leather. This rug carries the visual complexity in the room. Everything around it can afford to be quiet.

Vacuum regularly
Low suction, against the pile. Avoid the fringes with the nozzle.
Brush once or twice a year
Keeps the wool fibres alive and the texture looking its best.
Treat stains quickly
Blot gently with warm water and a little Woolite. Never rub.
Let it breathe
Never leave it folded for long. Wool needs air to stay in good shape.
Natural freshening tip
A light mist of water, bicarbonate of soda, and a few drops of mint essential oil refreshes the rug between cleans and acts as a natural insect repellent in spring and summer.
