A Moroccan zellige table is not really furniture in the usual sense. It is a mosaic of glazed tiles, each one cut by hand with a sharp hammer by a maâlem, a master artisan, then set into a tabletop that will outlive most of the things around it. The patterns, stars, diamonds and interlocking polygons, carry the visual language of Islamic geometric art.

Keeping the Palette Simple
What to Place on It
Less is more. The surface is already rich, so style it with restraint.
- A single candle or small lantern
- A low bowl or vase from our Moroccan ceramics
- A small stack of books with beautiful spines
- A tray of Beldi glasses, ready for mint tea
Looking After It
Wipe with a soft damp cloth. Mild soap is fine. Avoid abrasive cleaners, which dull the enamel over time. The grout lines can be cleaned with a soft brush.
The tiles are frost-resistant and the cement top handles the seasons well, even in full summer sun. Through heavy rain and the snow season, use a waterproof cover or bring it inside: water that sits and freezes stresses the grout lines, and the iron base lasts longest when it stays dry.
Each tile is hand-cut and hand-placed. Slight irregularities in the grout lines, tile edges and colour depth are normal. They are what make the piece real.
